As Social Networking giants Facebook continue their international online conquest they have recently set another new record in the UK.
Facebook now has over 18 million UK users and last Sunday (14th June) experienced its busiest ever day in the UK. The huge number of visitors followed the recent launch of personalised usernames for users and in a bid to get the best available url for themselves they flocked to the site. The new capability was lauched after users continually asked Facebook for the ability to do so, and now allows users to have usernames such as ‘/johnsmith’ rather than a series of numbers. I imagine the countless John Smith’s rushed to beat their namesakes!
On the 14th June 2009 Facebook was the second most visited website in the UK behind Google.co.uk, with traffic up 9.5% on the previous week. In fact, on Sunday Facebook made up 1 in every 19 UK internet website visit, almost 5.17% of online traffic and accounted for 43.32% of all UK Internet visits to Social Networking sites with 250% more visitors than second place YouTube.
