Facebook, Twitter and Digg are regarded by many as the three most important Social Media sites out there, but how do they compare…

Recent reports from ComScore revealed that almost a third of all internet users across the globe visited Facebook in September, a truly astonishing fact. This is almost a 100% increase from the same month last year in which 17% of worldwide internet users visited the Social networking site.

It’s certainly not only Facebook that has seen growth in the social media market. If media and press coverage for each site was compared, Twitter would almost definately be the top of the pile. However, in terms of comparative visitor figures both Twitter and Digg struggle to make impact on the same graph as Facebook.

Having said that, Digg has also seen a large growth over the past twelve months, increasing unique worldwide visitor numbers to 32 million, more than doubling last years total of 15 million. In addition, page views have tripled to 171 million.

Below are some very interesting graphs showing individual site growth.
