Salesforce.com the cloud computing giants have recently revealed that they will integrate social functions into their platform. The service, to be named ‘Chatter’ is set to be launched in 2010 and will allow elements of social networking functionality within a company.

Although some businesses may be hesitant to introduce so called social networking within the office, Salesforce look to incorporate features that will benefit businesses and harness the positive aspects of social media sites. For example this would include real-time chat and private and secure company social networks. Furthermore it would include features such as content sharing, personal profiles and feeds in an attempt to improve internal communications and business efficiency.

Chatter is set to be included in all paid versions of Salesforce CRM and Force.com and Salesforce.com. In addition Salesforce will also offer a standalone Chatter Edition for $50 per user per month.

Salesforce have furthered their partnership with Google today with the release of Google Apps for Salesforce.

Essentially Google Apps can now work directly with Salesforce allowing email (Gmail), Calendars and other Google Apps sharing data seamlessly.

Salesforce does currently have Microsoft Office data collaboration currently but it can be a little clunky at times (mainly due to the offline/online issue) and Google Apps solves this little issue quite nicely.
